Dwane L. Bergert, age 89, of Canton, passed away Tuesday February 20, 2018 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Canton, OH on January 27, 1929 to the late Ray and Dorothy (Ringer) Bergert. Dwane was a retired truck driver for Schumacher Lumber Co. in Hartville. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Parish in Middlebranch. Dwane enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandsons and attending all of their activities.
Dwane is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma (DeMatteis) Bergert; daughter, Carol (Jeff) Kohler; son David Bergert; sister, Donna Dayton; brother, Russell (Georgia) Bergert; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bergert; two grandsons, Matt (Megan) Kohler and Joseph (Emily Welsh) Kohler; several nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Larry Bergert. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Dickerhoff; two brothers, Richard and Glenn Bergert. The family would like to give a special thank you to Mercy Hospice, Dr. Larry Penvose and Little Flower Catholic Parish for their care and kindness during Dwane’s illness.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am Monday at Little Flower Catholic Church in Middlebranch, OH with Fr. Leo Wehrlin as celebrant. Calling hours will be from 5-7pm Sunday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville and from 10-11am Monday morning at the Church. Dwane will be laid to rest in Warstler Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice or Little Flower Catholic Parish in Middlebranch, OH.
