Mercy Grief Support Services

Grief Counseling and Education

Mercy Grief Support Services offers grief counseling and education to individuals and families, civic and professional organizations and the business community in regards to the emotional trauma associated with any major loss, change or transition.  This includes the grief and bereavement of life’s most painful loss, the death of a loved one.

Mercy Grief Support Services offers:

  • Adult grief support groups free of charge.

  • Individual, couple and family grief counseling for Hospice patients and families.

  • Support for healthcare professionals in reconciling personal feelings of loss with a sense of professionalism.

Seeds of Hope Bereavement Support Group for Adults

Seeds of Hope is an eight-week journey towards healing and wholeness for adults experiencing the grief associated with the loss of a loved one. Sessions are led by qualified and experienced grief facilitators.  It is recommended that participants attend grief group three months or more following the loss of a loved one.

Evening Sessions: 6 – 7:30 p.m.

  • April 5, 12, 19, 26; May 3, 10, 17, 24
  • July 5, 12, 19, 26; August 2, 9 (six-week group)

Grief Groups

Aultman Hospice Grief Services offers a variety of support groups to the community at no charge. Please call Beth Wengerd at 330-479-4835 to learn more or sign up for a group.

Children’s Grief Group
This weekly support group is for children ages 8-12 and will run Wednesdays from March 4-April 1. The goals of the group are to learn about grief and talk about feelings connected with grief and loss. Please call 330-479-4835 to obtain additional details and register.

Journaling Workshop
Learn how journaling can help the grieving process. On Thursday, March 5 and Thursday, March 12, attendees will make special journals – and all materials will be supplied. Licensed Social Worker and Bereavement Counselor Judy Smith, along with bereavement volunteer Lynn Lehner, will lead the sessions and provide ideas on how to journal to relief stress, clarify feelings and discover helpful insights. Reservations are required to ensure enough journaling materials are provided for all participants. Please call 330-479-7448 or 330-479-4835 for details.

Grief 101
Grief 101 is a six-week group being offered Thursdays from March 26-April 30 from 6-7:15 p.m. The group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one due to death. The support group will be an opportunity to learn more about grief and ways to cope. Licensed Social Worker Judy Smith will facilitate this group. Registration is required by calling 330-479-4835, and participants are asked to commit to attending all six sessions. 

One Day at a Time
This group is open anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one and would like information and support.    

Trauma Loss Group
Led by counselors with expertise in trauma loss, this group meets once a month and is offered to those who have experienced the traumatic loss of a love.  

Young Widows
This is a new and ongoing monthly group for women who would like continued friendship and support.  

Lunch Bunch
This is an independent social group that meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at different area restaurants.  
Men’s Breakfast

This group is for men who have experienced the loss of loved ones. Aultman Chaplain Terry Livengood facilitates this group, which meets the third Friday of the month at 8:30 a.m. and includes a free homemade breakfast.  

Stitchin’ and Knittin’
This group is for people who have experienced the loss of loved ones and would like to meet in a casual atmosphere for support and friendship. Bring any handwork project on which you are working. The group gathers the fourth Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m.  

Counseling
Aultman offers counseling to anyone experiencing the loss of a love one. Counselors who specialize in grief address loss ranging from the death of a loved one or pet to infant/child loss to anticipatory grief. Counseling may assist in easing loss and making grief more manageable. Most major insurances are accepted, but no one will be turned away for the inability to pay.  

Learn More
With the exception of the Lunch Bunch, the grief groups meet at the Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital Compassionate Care Center. The facility is located on the Aultman Woodlawn campus at 2821 Woodlawn Ave. in Canton. Please call Beth Wengerd at 330-479-4835 to learn more or register for a group.
