Welcome to the memorial page for

Beverly F. Brockway

December 29, 1932 ~ August 29, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Beverly F. Brockway, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend, passed from this life into the arms of her Savior early Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017.

Born in Buchanan, Michigan on December 29, 1932 to Clarence and Eva (Barber) Huss, she joined Floyd (Francis), Marjorie (Emil Strefling), Robert (Margaret) and Dixie (Richard Martin) on the farm. It was there she learned such values as love, hospitality, hard work and a flair for cooking that would define her life. Her holiday meals and her 14-day sweet pickles are legendary.

Bev was a graduate of Galien (Michigan) High School Class of 1950, where she met the love of her life, O. Wayne Brockway. Married on March 1, 1952, the Korean Conflict soon separated them while Wayne served in Korea. Upon his return their family began to grow and would eventually include 5 sons: Wayne (Bonni), Steve (Becki), Mark, Jim (Sandi) and David (Joyce). As they grew up, Bev and Wayne instilled the values they had learned into their family. Her delicious and hearty meals fed her growing family and though there may have been some lean times, the boys never knew it for they were surrounded by love and care.

Once all the boys were in school, Bev began to volunteer at Molly Stark hospital, first in the Recreational Therapy department and later in the Adult Day Care Center, a pioneering program in elder care. She was hired as the director of the Day Care program and retired after 20 years of service.

At home, Beverly was an avid gardener and loved growing flowers, especially roses. At church, her ministries over the years included Kindergarten Sunday School teacher and kitchen coordinator at Christ United Methodist Church in Louisville where her culinary skills shown brightly. Members there over 50 years, Bev and Wayne are beloved mentors and examples for countless past and present participants in the life of the congregation.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and their spouses, brother-in-law Emil and her much beloved son Mark. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Wayne, her 4 sons and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and grand-spouses. She is also survived by her 2 dear sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Calling hours will be 10:00 -11:00 AM Saturday in Christ United Methodist Church, 600 East Gorgas Street in Louisville, with services to follow at 11:00 AM. Internment will be at East Nimishillen Church Cemetery. Many thanks to Don Israel and the staff of Stier-Israel Funeral Home for their kind services.
