Joseph Daniel Bernard, Jr, age 81, of Paris, OH passed away Sunday February 10, 2019. He was born September 10, 1937 in Canton, OH to the late Joseph Daniel and Mary (Gallagher) Bernard. Dan was a 1955 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He attended St. Vincent College and graduated from Malone University. Dan was involved in many civic and philanthropic organizations. He was part of the Canton Jaycees Big Brother/Big Sisters, the YMCA, Toastmasters Leadership of Stark County and the Louisville Rotary Club. He coached tennis at Malone University and taught golf for an afterschool program at NCMS. He was an author who wrote poems and letters to the editor. He was an avid bowler and tennis player. He played USTA Tennis and he was inducted into the Greater Canton Bowling Assoc. Hall of Fame. He loved to play euchre and watch his grandkids play sports.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret (Rorick) Bernard; four children, Daniel (Jane), Deborah, Dave (Holly), and Doug (Michelle) Bernard, a sister, Mary (Tom) Craddock; seven grandchildren, Charles Orr, Zoey, Tristan, Madison, Katelyn, Karley and Kadence; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Evelyn Orr.
A mass of Christian burial will be 11am Thursday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 400 West High St, Minerva, OH 44657. Calling hours will be 6-8pm Wednesday evening at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville and 10-11am Thursday morning at the church. Dan will be laid to rest in Mount Union Cemetery, Alliance, OH.
