Norma Summers, age 85, passed away on August 3, 2017 after a brief illness.  Norma was born to Hilda (Immel) and Norman Shoemaker on May 29, 1932 in Louisville, Ohio.  She was preceded in death by her sisters Jane (Bishop), Dorothy (Wagner), and brothers Bernard and Eugene Shoemaker. 

Norma has a larger than life personality and was always first to offer help to anyone in need.  She was always active in the community, and over the years, she served as a school librarian, PTA president, and as deacon and elder at Paradise United Church of Christ.  Norma enjoyed visiting shut-ins and preparing meals for various church and community events.  Many people will remember Norma from her days working at Retzler’s and Metzgers’s hardware stores.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Kim (Pete) Kovarik and son, Michael (Mary Jo) Summers as well as two sister in laws, Barbara Shoemaker and Helen Shoemaker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial ervice will be held 1pm Tuesday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville with Rev. Dr. David Anderson officiating.   Calling hours will be one hour before the funeral.  Burial will be in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may consider donating to the American Cancer Society or Paradise United Church of Christ, 619 E. Main Street Louisville, Ohio 44641.
