Welcome to the memorial page for

Susan M (Scott) Reed

December 28, 1938 ~ August 27, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

We tried so very hard to keep her with us, with major efforts by her family, friends, doctors and nurses. In the end, she achieved her one remaining desire of returning to her much loved house. Her last days at home were quiet and peaceful.

Susan Mary Scott Reed was born December 28, 1938 in Cleveland, to James A. Scott and Mary Edith Dwelle Scott. James was originally from Baltimore, where his Irish and German ancestors had settled. Mary was from Sandusky and Kelleys Island. Most of Mary’s ancestors were from England and Germany, settling in Massachusetts in 1630 and arriving in Ohio in 1821.

A brother, Ronald Scott (June), and a sister, Nancy Scott Benko (late Steve), also arrived and the family lived in East Cleveland until James passed away in 1948. The family moved to Mary’s hometown, Sandusky. Susan got her first job as a dietetic aide at Good Samaritan Hospital and worked at Otto’s Ice Cream (Tofts). Sue graduated from Sandusky High School in 1957 and Bowling Green State University in 1961. She studied English and French and was in Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She met Bernard Leroy Reed at college. Bernie and Sue married at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Cleveland, in 1961.

The couple lived in Lakewood, Ohio, where their daughters, Christine Renée Reed Lamb (Rev. Alan Lamb) and Cheryl Sue Reed Fahey were born. The family moved to Canton in 1964, living in several homes in Plain and Lake Townships, and in North Canton. Sue had a number of jobs, retiring in 1999.

Sue was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where she served many years on the Altar Guild. In addition Sue was an active member at various times of North Canton Ladies Literary Guild, College Club of Canton, North Canton Newcomers and the Girl Scouts (troop leader). She liked to travel, play bridge and dominos, golf and more. Above all she loved spending time with her many friends and her family. Over the years, Sue had various cat companions in her home, including Blackie, Sugar, Tiger, Lyra, Smoky, Samantha and Punkin. Her family listed above, nieces and nephews, and her cat Shadow, survive her.

Susan’s family will greet family and friends at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 515 48th St. N.W., Canton, Ohio from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 31, and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, September 1. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 1, Rev. Dustin Berg officiating. Burial follows at North Lawn Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a worthy cause that is close to your heart.
