Betty Loudin Obituary

Betty Sue Loudin, age 66, of Deerfield passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at UH-Ravenna Hospital following a period of declining health. Betty Sue was the daughter of Gretchen and Gerald Loudin.

Betty Sue was a graduate of Southeast High School Class of 1972.  After high school she attended Mount Union College graduating in1976 with a degree in elementary education.  Betty Sue was employed with Stahl’s Farm Market during her high school and college years.  After receiving her teaching credentials she taught at Howland Christian School for a short time and then spent the majority of her career at Southeast Local Schools in Portage County.  Betty Sue was always proud to say she was a Southeast Pirate and a Mount Union Purple Raider.

Betty Sue was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.  She taught many child and adult Sunday school classes through the years, as well as vacation Bible schools. She was always ready to serve and had been a member of virtually every committee of the Church. She had also been a member of the church choir. She missed very few Sunday services over the course of her life.  As her diabetes would eventually affect her eye sight; she relied on her years of service and memory to be able to recite scripture and sing most of the hymns knowing every verse.  Most important to Betty Sue was her love for Jesus and being surrounded by her family. In her later years she would spend countless hours on the telephone visiting with friends, having prayer and offering words of encouragement. She always had an anecdotal tale or a new joke.  She was always more concerned with how well others were doing, Despite many limitations, her answer was always the same, “I can’t complain.”

Betty Sue is survived by her mother, Gretchen Loudin, her lifelong advocate and caregiver; her sisters, Jill Luketic (Tony) of Rootstown, Laura Browning (Donnie) of Madison, TN, her brother Jerry Loudin of Deerfield, and her treasured nieces and nephews: Matthew, Lauren, Justin, Jacob, Sara, and Jared Browning; Jamie, Geno, Daniel and Neil Luketic; Katie, Adam and Jenna Loudin and all their families. Betty Sue was preceded in death by her father Gerald Loudin, grandparents James and Retta Loudin, grandparents Clair and Edna Wertenberger and her beloved sister-in-law Jerri Lou Martz Loudin.
