Gary David Muhleman, age 80, of Louisville, OH passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on Monday, April 13, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Gary was a true blue-collar “fixer”— dependable, hardworking, and resilient, with a complexity that those closest to him deeply appreciated. His strong belief in American-made products stemmed from his upbringing on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work, self-reliance, and pride in a job well done. Throughout his life, Gary often worked two or three jobs at a time so that he and his beloved wife of 57 years, Judy, could build a home and raise their children with the security and values he held dear.
Gary retired after 34 years from The Timken Company and also worked for the Louisville Police Department as an auxiliary police officer for 20 years. After retirement Gary proudly drove bus for Louisville schools and loved mowing the fairways at Skyland Pines Golf Course.
Gary also valued service to his country, church and community. He proudly served 4 years in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He was actively involved with St. Louis Church for many years. Gary was also an active supporter of Louisville City Schools. He was a dedicated member of the Band Boosters and served as President of both the Touchdown Club and the Booster Club and was an integral part of building the original football stadium press box. His love for the Louisville schools was evident in the many levy committees he supported, always working to ensure opportunities for future generations. In addition, he was a volunteer for the Rotary Flag Program for many years. In recognition of his commitment to the community, Gary was honored as Citizen of the Year in 1999.
However, Gary’s greatest joy came from coaching and Louisville athletics where he was a longtime sports supporter. He loved coaching softball at STA, as well as his sons’ baseball teams. He ran the football score board for many years along with the clock for Louisville basketball. In the last eight years, Gary found a new kind of happiness sitting along the sidelines, proudly watching his grandchildren play. A man who always “bled blue,” made the joyful switch to purple and gold for them.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Judy (Burke) Muhleman; his daughter, Andrea (Mark) Greco; two sons, Steve (Erica) Muhleman and Mark (Krissy) Muhleman; nine grandchildren, Danae (David) Hambly, Alexis (Adam) Nyland, Lauren (Kory) Arner, Connor Wendt, Danny Greco, Kyle Muhleman, Carter Muhleman, Cohen Muhleman, Lilia Muhleman; one great-granddaughter, Elsie Arner; a sister, Judy D. Muhleman; and his beloved dog, Jackson.
Along with his parents, Amos and Audrey Muhleman Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Muhleman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Friday, April 17, 2026 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Rev. Fr Thomas Bishop as Celebrant. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 16 from 4-6 PM at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville. Gary will be laid to rest in Saint Louis Cemetery.
