George L. McCarty of Marlboro Township passed away after a sudden illness surrounded by his family on March 25, 2026. He was born to the late James and Jennie McCarty in Canton, Ohio on June 11,1947.
George graduated from Glenwood High School in 1966 and worked for Sugardale Foods for 30 years. After retirement, he worked as a Laborer in the 1015 Union for 10 years in Canton. He was very passionate about vintage cars, especially his 1940 Packard and collecting anything and everything in which he saw value. He was a friend to everyone that he met. Above all, he loved his family, children and grandchildren. He chose a special nickname for each and every one of them. He will be very deeply missed.
George was preceded in death by his siblings, Joel Roudebush, Mary (Tudy), Lillian, James (Slim), Barbara Ann and Robert (Blib) McCarty. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara (Strouble) McCarty and sister Florence "Sue" (Ed) Phillips. Children, Tracy (Chris) McCarty, Michelle Tatum, Brett (Kathy) McCarty, George II, Justin, Paul (Kristen) McCarty, Nicole (Lucas) Coldsnow, Daniel (Sara) McCarty, grandchildren: Zachary (Kayla) McCarty, Ryin (Emma) McCarty, Madeline Welsh (Wayne), Brett McCarty, Kaitlyn (Victor) Alterizio, Roslynn, Harley, Cooper, Chloe, Ellie, Clyde and Clayton McCarty, Gabby, Nash and Daphne Coldsnow and 8 great-grandchildren.
Honoring George’s wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marlboro Fire Company, 9577 Edison St NE, Alliance, OH 44601. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.stierisraelfuneralhome.com
