H. Joseph Zwick Obituary

H. Joseph (Joe) Zwick, age 98, of Louisville, went home to be with the Lord and join his bride of 65 years, Roseanne, on Friday, January 7, 2022. Joe was born on October 23, 1923 and lived an exceptional life. He is the son of the late Herman and Florence (Gulling) Zwick.

Joe was a kind, thoughtful and selfless man who doted over his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was very important to him, and he and Roseanne raised nine children in Louisville where he was the mayor from 1953 to 1957. He was President of Zwick’s Department Stores for many years. Joe served in World War II as a carrier fighter pilot and collected degrees from John Carroll University and McKinley Law School. He became a member of the Ohio State Bar Association in 1954 before managing Zwick’s full-time until his retirement.

He served in numerous community groups, including on the Board of the Louisville Public Library. He was a member of St. Louis Church, where he participated in many committees.

In his later years, Joe enjoyed tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, playing Euchre – especially the daily three-hour games with his friends at St. Joseph Senior Living – and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him ‘Pop.’

Joe had a heart of gold and the innate ability to make everyone’s day better just by talking to him.

Joe is survived by five daughters, Janet (Paul) Harold, Jean (Paul) Sherrett, Mary (Scott) Danals, Sue (John) Stipe, Cassie(Will) Crawford; two sons, Joel (Kim) Zwick, Mark Zwick; 14 grandchildren, Alan Harold, Chrissie Schmotzer and Elizabeth Franz, Sterling Jackson, Evan Danals and Melia Ng, Zach Stipe, Katie Wernow and Lauren La Rocca, Christian Zwick , Sarah Amabeli , and Francie McQuilkin, Erin  and Julie Zwick; 16 great-grandchildren, Ella, Caroline, Madeline, Luke, Andrew, Adam, Owen, Luca, Gio, Eleanora, Chase, Yaelle, Emmy, Louis, Lionetta, and Lovianna and two sisters, Rosemary Phillips and Barbara Haren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Roseanne, who passed away on February 14, 2016; his daughters, Joanne Zwick and Laurie Doettger (Zwick); five sisters, Rita France, Eileen Clapper, Mary Schrader, Jean Kirtley, Eunice Ott and three brothers, Pat, Tom and Mark Zwick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11am Monday at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church, 3430 St. Michael Drive NW, Canton, OH 44718. The family request that masks be worn and covid-19 protocols be followed. Joe will be laid to rest, beside his wife, in St. Louis Parish Cemetery, Louisville, OH
