Joseph Baker Obituary

Joseph Michael Baker, 81, of Louisville, Ohio, passed away July 18, 2025.  He was born July 22, 1943 in Canton, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Catherine (Lalinsky) Baker.

After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1961, Joe began work as a tool grinder for the Timken Company.  Over his nearly 42 year career he made many friends and connections, the most important of which was catching the eye of the pretty Carol Neal in the accounting office.  Joe and Carol married in 1971 and spent the next 54 years at each other’s side.

Joe’s family meant everything to him.  He was the go-to guy for questions, advice, and problem solving.  And if you were willing to listen, he had suggestions for supplements for you to take that would cure what ails you.

Joe’s mechanical mind was well suited for working on cars, changing oil and brakes, and he passed that knowledge along to the next generation.  He enjoyed time in the great outdoors fishing, golfing or working in his garden and loved getting away to the Baker family cabin.

Joe was an avid Ohio State fan and took pride in watching his sons take the field at the Horseshoe as they played for the Buckeyes.  In the years after, you’d be hard-pressed to have a conversation with him and not learn about his boys being on the team!

Joe was preceded in death by his son, Michael Baker, brother Don Baker and brothers-in-law Ralph Class and Jim France.  He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Neal); his favorite daughter Kim (Eric) Wilson, daughter-in-law Kristy (Mike) Baker, son Matt (Toni) Baker; grandchildren Kayla, Logan, Mandy, Ben, Maggie and Jake; and great-grandchildren Dominic, Roman, McKenna and McKenzie.

Joe is also survived by siblings Patricia France, Nancy Class, John (Linda) Baker, Cathy Baker and James (Pam) Baker; in-laws Joyce Baker, Steve (Kathy) Neal, Patricia (John) Stanley, Robert (Vicki) Neal, and Becky (Dale) Cuckow; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life gathering to be held at a later date and details will be shared as they are finalized.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
