R. Larry Wise Obituary

R. Larry Wise, age 85, of Louisville, OH passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021. He was born March 26, 1935 in Akron, OH to the late Robert and Roberta Wise. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1953, attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Kent State University in 1958.   Larry was an Army Veteran, serving one year in Korea. He was an avid sports fan. He played football at McKinley, at Michigan and he was a member of the All Army Far East All-Star football team in 1959. He worked in various jobs of marketing, advertising and sales. He retired from International paper in 1999 after 20 years of service. He was very involved in the community and especially with athletics. In addition to serving on the board at Boys Village, he was instrumental in raising funds to build the Dean Davis Athletic Facility at Wooster High School. For his accomplishments, he was inducted into the Wooster High School Sports Hall of Fame as a Blue and Gold Award winner in 2004 and the Boys Village Hall of Fame in 2014. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Builders Sunday School Class of the church. Larry had one of the best experiences and days of his life when he was chosen to go on the Honor Flight from Columbus to Washington DC on October 19, 2019.

Larry was a very loving husband and proud father and grandfather. He enjoyed seeing his kids and grandkids excel in their athletic and musical endeavors and liked attending whenever he could. He was always their #1 fan and let them know it. Larry is survived by his wife Thelma Wise; son Jon (Kris) Wise; daughter, Wendy Haskell; the mother of his children, Maxine Wise; step-daughter, Amber Best; step-son, Shane (AJ) Best; his sister, Patty Richardson and 12 grandchildren.

Larry will be laid to rest, with military honors, in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. A service to celebrate Larry’s life is being planned for future date. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Boys Village.
