Robert J. Thorley of Louisville, OH is now in the arms of his Lord, having passed away on December 7, 2021 at the age of 91. Bob was born on August 5, 1930 in Homeworth, OH, the only child of Foster J. and Gladys E. (Beutler) Thorley now deceased.
He graduated from Louisville High School in 1948 and proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He achieved the rate of Aviation Machinist Mate. He was employed at Ohio Bell Telephone Company for over thirty-one years.
Bob was an active member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church. He was the oldest continuous members of the church and had served on many committees. He was also an assistant scout master of Troop 44 for over fifteen years. During these years he was proud to see all three of his sons receive the Eagle Scout Award and was also proud to have earned his own Pipestone Award. He also was a member of Post 548 of the American Legion.
He loved to read biographies, do yard work, and especially plow the fields on the farm of his cousins, James and Nancey Irwin. Bob and Marge traveled in their motorhome for over twenty years following the NCAA basketball tournaments in March, always in the warmer states. They always took their golf clubs with them.
Surviving him is his wife, Marjorie L. Thorley (Zorger) with whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage. Also surviving are his three sons, three grandsons, four great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters. Sons David A. and Christy Thorley, Dale R. Thorley (Barbara Snyder), Dean M. and Rita Thorley. Grandsons Adam and Nicole Thorley and children Konnor, Keaton and Olivia Ann. Alex and Hillary Thorley and Allie Jane. Daniel and Victoria Thorley and Hillard, Erin and Foster. He has an extended family surviving him of Barbara’s children, Joe and Julie Figurella and Olivia Rose and Luke. Shawn and Jennifer Hauck and Carter. Bob is also survived by many close cousins.
Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday (12/15) at Fairhope United Methodist Church, 5660 Louisville Street NE Louisville, OH 44641 with Pastor Becky Evanoff officiating. Friends and relatives will be received on Tuesday (12/14), from 6-8pm at Stier-Israel Funeral Home, 917 East Main Street, Louisville, Ohio and 10-11am Wed. morning at the church. Bob will be laid to rest, with military honors, in Union Cemetery, Louisville, OH with Rev. Scott Hayward officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Fairhope United Methodist Church.
