Ruth Ellen Kehl of Louisville, OH, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022 after a long and productive life of 96 years. Ruth was born on July 3, 1926 in Canton and grew up the only child of parents William and May (Cowley) Slaugenhaupt. She graduated from Louisville High School in 1944 and attended the OSU Ag Tech Institute. A childhood neighbor of the Kehl family and its eight siblings, she married Donald Kehl in 1950 and the two were blessed with a loving relationship of 72 years. They enjoyed camping and fishing trips and never tired of exploring history and genealogy. In addition to being a devoted mother and later grandmother, Ruth was a proficient gardener and worked at the family business, Herman Kehl Florist and Greenhouses. In later years, she and Donald made the trip south as Florida snowbirds and for a while worked parttime for Walt Disney World Florist and the Animal Kingdom Theme Park in Orlando. Ruth was a woman of many gifts with strength and humility even to the end. To those who loved her, she exuded a calm nobility of spirit. She had a knowing smile about who she was and a deep faith in her Creator and trust in His promises. She was an enduring light in our lives and will be greatly missed. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who passed away in February. She is survived by her son Don (Patricia), daughter Jane Kehl, all of Louisville; granddaughter Jennifer McMaster, great-granddaughter Makayla McMaster, both of Fernandina Beach FL; sisters in law Eileen Schneiter and Rosemary Kehl, and many nieces and nephews. Ruth will be laid to rest in Union Cemetery, Louisville, OH with a graveside service at 11am on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Online condolences may be left at www.stierisraelfuneralhome.com
