Vernon C. Saunier

The family and friends of Vernon Saunier are sad to announce his passing on June 16, 2022.

Vernon is survived by his bride of 72 years, and best friend, Virginia; son Eric and wife Bonnie Saunier; grandchildren Rachel Saunier (Hohman) and husband Matt; Danial Saunier (and Gaby); great grandchildren Addison and Payton Hohman and an enormous number of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Saunier; a sister, Lillian Saunier and a brother, Paul Saunier.

Vernon was born on January 5, 1932 to the late Lewis and Rowie (Brandenburg) Saunier. He grew up in Middlebranch, Ohio, attending Middlebranch High School until marriage to Virginia. He obtained his GED at age 59 and worked for more than 28 years at Sugardale, followed by assisting his son, Eric, in his lawn care business.

Vernon was a dedicated church-goer and member of the congregation of Little Country Church in Waynesburg, Ohio. He also taught Sunday school for over 28 years at Dueber United Methodist Church. Vernon loved listening to his gospel songs, especially those sung by the Booth Brothers. Vern enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, earning the nickname “Coach Grandpa” while coaching his granddaughter’s softball team.

Vernon Saunier will always be known for his strength, determination, religious values, dedication, and kindness to all he encountered. Vern was truly special. He never met a stranger, always welcoming people into his caring sphere of warmth and acceptance.

Funeral services will be11am Wednesday at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville with Pastor Ted Knapp officiating. Calling hours will be 10-11am Wednesday morning at the funeral home. Vernon will be laid to rest in North Lawn Cemetery, Canton, OH. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: Aultman Hospice – 2821 Woodlawn Ave, N.W.
