Obituary

William B. Meaney, age 90 passed away Thursday, 8/31/23. He was born on 8/1/1933 in Ashtabula, Ohio to the late Clement and Margaret (Seme) Meaney. He moved to Louisville in 1961 when he was hired as a truck driver for Sugardale Meats. Everybody at Sugardale called him Wild Bill, and that became his CB handle. He retired in 1992 after 30+years and member of the Teamsters Union Local 92. He graduated from Ashtabula Senior High School in the Class of 1951. He was in the Panther marching band and played trumpet. He enlisted in “The United States Navy” from 1953-1957. His ship was the USS Des Moines, which was the Flagship of the Navy’s 6th Fleet, which carried the admiral. During his time in the Navy, he was a carpenter in the shop making many things. He could make anything out of a piece of wood. He was enlisted when the Korean War broke out and his ship was there for support. He traveled all over the world and many ports are now closed to the United States. He married Alice Jane Gnau on 7/7/1962. They just celebrated 61 years of marriage this past July. Bill loved his planes & trains. He was a member of the Balsa Bees  Remote Control Airplane club and a member of the North Canton Flying Club for many years. He was also a very active member of the VFW, American Legion, FOE Eagles, and the American Sportsman Club in East Canton. He loved hunting, fishing, playing his trumpet/saxophone, traveling, his truck, Ohio State Buckeye football, Browns, & Indians. He is preceded in death by his father, Clement Meaney; mother, Margaret Seme; niece, Shelia Ann Salvato; baby sister, Pauline Meaney. He is survived by Alice Jane Meaney, wife of 61 years, daughters Barbara (Mike Barstow) Meaney & JoAnn Meaney both of Louisville, Ohio; sister, Patricia Salvato of Orlando, Florida; nephews Patrick Salvato of Orlando, Florida; Brian (Kristin) Salvato of Washington DC; niece, Janet (Ted) Salvato Dombroski of Hartford, CT; great niece, Brianna Salvato of Washington DC, great nephews, Tommy & Zachary Salvato both of Washington DC; Michael Dombroski of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Brian Dombroski of Hartford, CT; great-great-niece, Krysta Salvato-Hayes of Tampa, Florida; Sister-in-law, Barbara Wisher of Ft Myers, Florida; Edward Francis of Dunn, NC; Brian (Mary) Francis of Pensacola, Florida; Timothy (Angela) Francis of Indian Lake Estates, Florida; great nieces, Cori Marie Francis & Kaitlyn Francis both of Indian Lake Estates, Florida.

The family will receive friends 10-11am Monday morning (9/11) at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held 11am Monday (9/11) at the funeral home, with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion in Louisville. Bill will be laid to rest, with military honors, in Union Cemetery, Louisville, OH. God Bless Everyone!
