Roderick Lang Obituary

Roderick W. Lang, age 65, of Canton, Ohio, died after an extended illness on May 18, 2021. The son of the late Robert W. and Dorris J. Lang, he graduated from Louisville High School in 1974. He then attended Ohio Northern University, earning a degree in English and Journalism in 1978.

After graduating from college, he was employed as the Educational Director and later as Director of the McKinley Museum, wrote for Ohio Power’s employee magazine, and worked for several large trade associations in Washington, D.C. before returning to Canton. Notably, he was the Executive Director of the Palace Theater and later retired from Muskingum University as the Assistant Director of Public Relations.

Rod was a local actor appearing predominately at Kent State Stark’s theater and The Kathleen Howland Theater. He also authored three plays performed at Kent State, Stark: Birdy, Sundries, and Aircheck. He truly loved the theater and the friends he found there.

Rod will be greatly missed by all who passed his way. He was a writer, photographer, teacher, coach and best friend. His family and friends who loved Rod described him as someone who helped to make sense of the world by shining a light on its absurdities. Interesting, intelligent and funny were just a few of the adjectives that described this remarkable man.

Rod is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandra Lang, his sister, Michele (Lang) Mulanax, his brother-in-law, Rick Mulanax, and his stepsons, Christopher Moore and his wife, Shari Moore, Matthew Moore and his wife, Emily Moore, and his granddaughter, Lilith Moore. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Brent Walls and his wife, Joanne Walls, Ronnie Walls and his wife, Mary Walls and Tim Walls along with numerous nieces and nephews.

At Rod’s request, there will be no funeral service. Donations in his memory can be sent to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Suite 206 North Hollywood CA, 91607, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to www.stierisraelfuneralhome.com
