Donald "Red" A. Barthel

Donald A. “Red” Barthel, age 83, of Louisville, OH passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at his daughter’s home in Gahanna, OH. He was born January 2, 1940 in Canton, OH to the late Donald and Viva Barthel. Red graduated from Louisville High School in 1958, he served in the Army Reserves and retired from Republic Steel.

Don is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Barthel, in October 2022; brothers Dante and Dwayne and sister Eileen Bose.  He is survived by a daughter, Theresa (Chuck) Warner of Gahanna; a son, Don (Kelly) Barthel of Louisville; his sister, Diane Bauman of North Canton; brother, Denny Barthel of Florida; five grandchildren, John, Emily, Bailey Warner, Hudson and Olivia Barthel.

Over his life Don was an active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church as well as several service organizations including Louisville Kiwanis Club, the Canton Tadmor Shrine, and the Masons.  He was also a member of the American Legion and the Louisville Eagles.

Red leaves behind many dear friends and family in Ohio as well as in the Campers Holiday community in Brooksville, Florida.

Funeral services will be 1pm Wednesday, March 22 at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville with Pastor Rick Brown officiating. Calling hours will be from 12-1pm at the funeral home.  Red will be laid to rest, beside his wife, in Sunset Hills Burial Park, Canton, OH.
