"Together Again"
Doris “Dorie” Elaine Walker, age 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, May 6, 2022. Dorie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born on January 7, 1933, to the late Mary and Warren Blandford, of Louisville. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, who passed away in 2005. They were married on July 30, 1954.
She is survived by: daughters Ann Warnock, of Nicholasville, Ky., and Gail (Dale) Kandel, of Louisville, and son Bill (Susie), of West Boylston, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, Katie (Jerry) Diddle, Frank (Katie) Warnock, Stephanie (William) Kist, Kurt (Carla) Kandel, Kyle (Keely) Kandel, Stacey (Andy) Wolfe, Bob (Vanessa) Walker, Dan (Abby) Walker, Shonna (Sandor Bocsi) Walker, Sarah (Sean) Gile, and Emily Walker and her fiancé, Aaron Pearl; as well as 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Pikulik, and brothers, Clyde, Paul, Charles and Ian Blandford.
Dorie was a 1951 graduate of Louisville High School and graduated in 1954 from the Aultman School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Aultman Hospital for 35 years.
Dorie was a 60-plus-year member of Christ United Methodist Church in Louisville, where she was actively involved in her younger years with the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Chancel Choir. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading, and sewing, and she left her family with many handmade quilts and Christmas stockings to cherish.
She will be remembered for her dedication to family, her quick smile, her dependable bedside manner, and her many talents. She is dearly missed by her large, loving family, with whom she was present and engaged until her last days.
Funeral services will be 11am Friday, May 13 at Stier-Israel Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Grant and Pastor Carl Kandel officiating. Calling hours will be 10-11am Friday morning at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Aultman Alliance Hospice or to the Christ United Methodist Church (Louisville) Memorial Fund.
