John Markley Shearer

John Markley Shearer 94, of Louisville, Ohio passed away, Sunday, January 23,2022. He was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, July 24, 1927, the son of the late Frank C. Shearer and Beatrice Markley Shearer.  He was retired from Louisville Public Schools where he served as Principal of North Nimishillen elementary school for 37 years, John was the holder of both a bachelor's and master’s Degrees from Kent State University. 

John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 68 years, Kathryn Pugh Shearer. Kathryn and John were longtime active members of Christ United Methodist Church where John taught Sunday School for many years.  John also taught Hunter Safety classes for more than 50 years. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the United States Coast Guard, in which he took great pride. He was a member of several service clubs in Louisville and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

John is survived by, his sister, Ethel Moore of East Lansing, Michigan and her daughter Cathy, sons Jan Keith Shearer, (Leslie), Mark Lynn Shearer, (Linda), a niece and nephew who shared their home, John Blum, (Shannon), Connie Schwyn, He will be missed by grandchildren Brian Blum, Kevin Blum, James Schwyn, Keith Schwyn, Megan Schwyn, Lora Weihe, Lisa Shearer, Jeff Shearer, Jay Shearer, Matthew Roach, Mark Roach, John Roach, and many nieces and nephews. His calm presence will be missed by his family.

A service to celebrate John’s life will be held 3pm Sunday (7/24) at Christ United Methodist Church in Louisville. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service until 5pm. Arrangements are being handled by Stier-Israel Funeral Home.  330-875-1414
