Leah Massolini Obituary

Leah (Sommers) Massolini, 89, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in her home on December 22, 2021 surrounded by her family.  She was born on January 20, 1932 to the late Paul and Ressie Buckwalter in Columbiana, Ohio.  Leah had many talents as a seamstress, doll-maker and gardener, but her musical talent is the one that shaped her entire life.  She taught private piano lessons for over 60 years and was a member of the Ohio Music Teachers Association studying college level music theory and receiving degrees and certifications for performances in classical music competitions.  She also was one of the first teachers in the country to be certified to set up a piano lab in her home allowing her to teach multiple students at the same time.  Leah played professionally at Timberlanes Motor Inn for 28 years as an organist and pianist and after retiring she volunteered her musical talents at St. Joseph Care Center which brought her great joy.  When complimented on her music, she always gave God the glory for giving her this gift.  Leah was active in several church communities contributing her musical talent to enrich the worship experiences.

Leah is preceded in death by her first husband Dean Sommers, second husband Frank Massolini and youngest daughter Denise Sommers, as well as a sister Ruby Stiefel and brothers Erlis and David Buckwalter. She is survived by daughters Cheryl (Scott) Van Horn, Lola (Tim) Conway, Ila (Dennis) Peffer, Mary Sommers, 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Leah’s exceptional gifts and talents impacted so many individuals throughout her lifetime and the enthusiasm, love, and laughter she brought to her family will remain forever in our hearts and be deeply missed by all.

The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice for their loving and compassionate care for Leah during the last 2 years of her life.

A private funeral service was attended by the family and Leah was laid to rest in Union Cemetery, Louisville, OH. A memorial service for Leah is being planned for a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.stierisraelfuneralhome.com
